As Emezi writes, “There was nothing to stop them from being whatever they wanted.” But in the midst of this path towards self-discovery, Feyi meets a new man and travels to the Caribbean with him to meet his family, and of course, unexpected love ensues. Over the course of one hot Brooklyn summer, she and her best friend Joy spend their days relaxing on the beach, shaving their heads, eating edibles, and getting new tattoos. Out on May 24, the Nigerian author’s debut romance novel tells the story of Feyi, a young woman who attempts to find herself again after the death of her partner. Since their 2018 debut Freshwater, Emezi has become a National Book Award finalist, appeared on the cover of Time as a 2021 Next Generation Leader, was a National Book Foundation “5 Under 35” honoree, and is currently developing two of their books- Freshwater and You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty-for the screen. I need to take a break.” And the break is much deserved. I’ve been doing that nonstop for the last four years. “I decided not to publish next year because if I was, I’d be in the middle of edits right now. “I hope for a sabbatical,” Emezi jokes over the phone. On the morning that I speak to Akwaeke Emezi, they’re in Los Angeles handling press for their new novel You Made a Fool of Death With Your Beauty-their seventh book published in four years.

"The greatest thing that art does, and that our industry does, is erase the lines in the sand," said del Toro, accepting the best director award. The Cold War-set movie, about a mute woman and a captive fish-man, is del Toro's Technicolor ode to outsiders of all kinds - and species. "The Shape of Water," which came in with 13 nods, took a leading four awards, including best production design, best score and best director for del Toro. The ceremony, held Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, exorcised some demons - like last year's envelope fiasco - and wrestled with other, deeper problems in Hollywood, like gender equality and diversity. Guillermo del Toro's lavish, full-hearted monster romance "The Shape of Water" swam away with best picture at an Oscar ceremony flooded by a sense of a change for a movie business confronting the post-Harvey Weinstein era. However, while this excitement is commendable and our goals of being an interplanetary species a revolutionary event that could transform human life, I think we all need to remember that even though this effort to touch down on other planets including Mars may be a decade away, it will be quite a while still where people in large quantities can explore, live, and settle down in a planet not named Earth. This effort will only intensify in the years and decades to come as we go from being space-bound again to even Moon-bound and Mars-bound with our eyes set forward to being a galactic species. When I say ‘future home’ as well, I may be met with some skepticism given the exciting recent events in putting man and woman back into space with success. As much as we try to ignore it, pay it no thought, or just let it fade into the background of our priorities, Planet Earth is our only current and future home. Rule number one? NO DATING, which becomes impossible to follow when she meets a dreamy boy trainee. Under the strict supervision of her instructors at the label’s headquarters in Seoul, Candace must perfect her performance skills to within an inch of her life, learn to speak Korean fluently, and navigate the complex hierarchies of her fellow trainees, all while following the strict rules of the industry. And convincing her strict parents to let her to go is all but impossible … although it’s nothing compared to what comes next. So when Candace secretly enters a global audition held by SLK’s music label, the last thing she expects is to actually get a coveted spot in their trainee program. She doesn’t see how a regular girl like her could possibly become one of those K-pop goddesses she sees on YouTube. For most of her life, she’s been playing the role of the quiet Korean girl who takes all AP classes and plays a classical instrument, keeping her dreams of stardom-and her obsession with SLK, K-pop’s top boyband-to herself. Candace Park knows a lot about playing a role. This research, furthermore, presented insights on how Tennessee Williams achieved the intended dramatic effect in the discourse of the characters. The study also analyzed the discourse contexts and their impact on the meaning of the given different situations that the main characters, i.e., Amanda, Laura, Tom Wingfield, encounter during the ongoing actions of the play. The researchers applied these principles to uncover conventional and unconventional elements embedded in the structures of the language. This discourse analysis of the dialogic language was based on dialogic principles outlined by Weigand (2009). The present study made a discourse analysis of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie. In The Glass Menagerie, Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) portrayed family relationships and struggles against hopelessness that threatens their lives. As a playwright, he is skilful to make the readers conscious of the unconscious habits and attitudes in everyday life. It elevated him to be one of the greatest playwrights of his generation. The Glass Menagerie is one of the Tennessee Williams' most famous plays which won the New York Drama Critics' Circle award. Rumor loses his father when they’re attacked by Hellhounds and a dragon. The author brings a poignant story into our hearts and gives readers food for thought with the friendship, loyalty and honesty of wonderful and complicated characters. This realistic situation with all of the stresses and anxiety rings true. I love how the author approaches Will’s secret and the different points of view in the small southern town. She will do anything to help him and when an old beau returns to town, the secret and Georgie’s loyalty are challenged. I’m immediately drawn into the story because of the lovable two main characters, best friends Will and Georgie. And he has to basically start his life fresh. His father has passed away while he was doing time and - to find that the farm is being foreclosed upon. The notion of the story is - right from the beginning for me was sort of an image of an honorable young man returning to a family farm driven by the warden after he's served time for really what was an accident. But then there's a man from the bank to welcome him home, isn't there? His father's died, and he has to take care of his little brother, Billy. He's just released from a juvie work farm.
